About the artist: I was born on September 11, 1954 in Hobbs, New Mexico. My dad was an oil field worker and during my younger years, when the rig moved, we moved. Because of this, I lived in many places when I was in elementary school.
I graduated from Odessa High School in 1972 and attended Eastern New Mexico University on a diving scholarship, intending to major in art. A diving accident during the second semester of my freshman year ended my diving career and discouraged me from completing the year.
After spending the next twelve years working as a welder's helper, welder, and welding inspector, I found myself hating the kind of work I was doing and decided to pursue a teaching career. I graduated from Angelo State University in 1987 with a Bachelor's Degree in science and teaching certificates in Biology and Kinesiology. I spent the next twelve years teaching Biology at one of the local high schools.
Trying to enhance the looks of an ugly classroom, I painted murals of wildflowers and wildlife on the walls. The principal at the time noticed the walls and asked me if I could teach a couple of art classes. I agreed.
I have now been teaching art for eight years. After the first year, I realized I needed help with many of the areas of art and decided to take water color lessons from one of the local artists residing at The Old Chicken Farm Art Center. By chance, I ended up taking pottery lessons instead. My life changed then and there. I have been practicing with clay for seven years now and have taught ceramics classes for five of those years.
On August 6, 2005, I opened the doors of the Old Greenhouse Gallery to the public. I have a studio in the back of the gallery where I will be doing most of my work now. The gallery is located in the back area of The Old Chicken Farm Art Center, 2505 Martin Luther King Drive, San Angelo, Tx.
